Prof. Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki Response To UNSC 1267 Sections

Lahore ( VOM ) : Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki holds strong reservations and condemned the enlisting of his name in UNSC 1267 sanctions committee. He believes that the grounds for his listing are based on heresy and disinformation by the Indian government. He has never met Osama Bin Laden, Ayman Al-Zawahiri or Abdullah Azam as alleged by some propaganda reports. He considers views and actions of Al-Qaeda, Daesh totally opposite of what he believes in. Abdul Rehman Makki denounces all kinds of terrorism and violence perpetrated by such groups. He believes in the principle position of Pakistani government regarding Kashmir and has always advocated solution of Kashmir according to the aspirations of Kashmiri people and fulfillment of UN resolutions. He regretted the UNSC decision to enlist him without giving fair opportunity to respond to allegations or hearing his point of view. No due process was followed or information was provided regarding these listings. He also denied allegations of him being a faculty member of Islamic University Islamabad in 80’s where he is accused of meeting Al-qaeda leaders or Afghan commanders. He has said that he has not studied or taught at Islamic university and has never had any contact with Abdullah Azam, Ayman Al Zawahiri or Osama Bin Laden. He was a student at Ummul Qura University in Makkah Saudia Arabia where he did his dissertation of Hadith Sciences and not on political Islam as alleged in some media reports. He believes it is unfortunate that Pakistan’s foreign office is letting its citizens into such sanctions who were vocal about human right abuses of Kashmir by Indian government. India wants to penalize and sanction anyone who speaks for Kashmir. He hoped that United Nations General Assembly, Human Right organizations and Security Council will allow him to represent himself through facts and evidences against baseless allegations and review its decision to enlist him under the sanction committee.
