Cooperation of business community sought in the war against narcotics

Islamabad (VOM ) Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam, Federal Secretary, Ministry of Narcotics Control expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the members of ICCI for convening at the MNC on such a short notice for a national cause and emphasized the resolve of the Honourable Federal Minister for Narcotics Control, Brig. Ijaz Ahmed Shah to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society with special focus on safeguarding the health and well being of the youth.
Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam said that the government was determined to make Pakistan a narcotics free society and business community should extend its cooperation to the government in its war against narcotics to develop a healthy nation. He said this while talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry that called on him led by Muhammad ShakeelMunir, President. Jamshaid Akhtar Sheikh Senior Vice President, Muhammad Faheem Khan Vice President ICCI, S.M.Munir former CEO TDAP, Mian Akram Farid Chairman Founder Group, Abdul Rauf Alam, Tariq Sadiq, Mian Shaukat Masud, Khalid Iqbal Malik, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi, Zafar Bakhtawari, Zahid Maqbool, Ch. Waheed ud Din, Sheikh Amir Waheed, Muhammad Naveed Malik, Saifur Rehman Khan, Zia Khalid Chaudhry and others were in the delegation.
Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam said that the government is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy for all types and forms of drugs as saving the young generation from the curse of narcotics was its key priority. He said that the business community could play a key role in curbing the trafficking of narcotics. He said that to purge the society of narcotics, everyone has to support the government’s efforts considering it a collective responsibility. He said that the role of the business community was important in discouraging those involved in drug trafficking. He also briefed the delegation about the various initiatives of his ministry to reduce supply & demand of drugs, prevent their smuggling, organize awareness campaigns, seek international cooperation and arrange the treatment & rehabilitation of drug addicts.
Speaking at the occasion, Muhammad Shakeel Munir, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry lauded the efforts of the government to purge the society from the menace of narcotics and drugs as it posed great dangers to our youth and assured that the business community would extend all possible cooperation to the government to make Pakistan a drug free and healthy nation. He suggested that the Ministry of Narcotics should organize awareness programs on a regular basis in chambers of commerce starting from ICCI to raise more awareness about this issue in the business community. He stressed that the government should introduce subjects on narcotics and drugs in the curriculum of schools, colleges and universities to sensitize the youth about its harmful consequences as this menace was spreading in the youth of educational institutions.
Jamshaid Akhtar Sheikh Senior Vice President, Muhammad Faheem Khan Vice President ICCI, S.M. Munir former CEO TDAP, Mian Akram Farid Chairman Founder Group and others also spoke at the occasion and shared many useful proposals to curb the spread of narcotics in the country.
