Islamabad: (VOM) Speaker Asad Qaiser has said that enhancing connectivity between the regional countries would help achieve economic prosperity. He said that region had immense economic potential which could be used for mutual benefit. He said this during a meeting with Member of the Iranian Parliament Mr. Ahmed Amirabadi Farahani in Islamabad this morning. Mr. Farahani is visiting Pakistan along with a five member delegation on the invitation of Speaker National Assembly.
The Speaker said that he had a strongly believes that frequent interaction between political hierarchy and people brings nations closer. He said that current upward trajectory of bilateral relations was manifestation of that. He said that Pakistan and Iran were tied in eternal bonds of religion, culture and history.
The Speaker said that present government was focusing on geo economics and connectivity for regional development and prosperity. He said that Pakistan has always desired for enhancing trade and people to people contact. He informed that opening of two new border points had facilitated trade and movement of people between Pakistani and Iran. He also appreciated the idea of establishment of border markets for enhancing bilateral trade and livelihood of people in border areas. He said that connectivity was imperative to extend dividends of economic activity generated due to CPEC to other parts of the region.
The Speaker said that Pakistan and Iran need to work closer in view of changing geo political situation in the region. He said that Pakistan had always desired to have cordial relations with its neighbours and resolution of contentious issues through peaceful means. Referring to the change of regime in Afghanistan, the Speaker said that Pakistan had always supported Afghan led and owned peace process. He said that closer liaison between both the governments was imperative to ensure that either of the soils are not used against each other. The Speaker also called for joint efforts to curb the problem of islamophobia in the west and resolution of disputes of Kashmir and Palestine in accordance with the international commitments. He thanked for Iranian support to Kashmir issue at international and regional forums.
Head of the Iranian delegation Mr. Ahmed Amirabadi Farahani said that his country holds Pakistan in high esteem and value it’s time immemorial relations. He said that Iran supports Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and advocates its resolution as per UN commitments besides resolution of issues of Palestine and Yemen. Referring to the economic potential, he agreed that both the countries need to work more closer to reap the benefits of economic activity. He said that the establishment of border markets would play an important role in tapping the trade potential. He said that he had had productive meeting with government functionaries during his visit to Islamabad and would communicate his recommendations to his government.
Later Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan Mr. Totuiaev Ulanbek Asankulovich called on Speaker Asad Qaiser in Islamabad. Existing bilateral relations between both the countries besides ways and means to further enhance them came under discussion.
Speaker Asad Qaiser said that Pakistan holds Kyrgyzstan close to its heart since both the nations were attached together in brotherhood, region, history and culture. He said that Pakistan desires to enhance those relations through enhancing people to people and economic ties. He said that Pakistan focuses on regional connectivity to share benefits of economic activity in the country. He noted that Kyrgyzstan could serve as gateway to Central Asia due to its close proximity with Pakistan. He said that he would ask the Pakistan-Kyrgyz Parliament Friendship group to take up this issue with the relevant quarters. He stressed the need to enhance cooperation between trade, investment, manufacturing and educational sectors. He asked the Ambassador to convey his best wishes and gratitude to Kyrgyz Speaker for his participation in PAECO conference held in Islamabad. He also accepted the invitation to visit Kyrgyzstan.
Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan Mr. Totuiaev Ulanbek Asankulovich thanked the Speaker for his kind remarks. He said that his country also hold Pakistan close to its heart. He said that undoubtedly immense potential exists on either side with could be used for mutual benefit. He said that a protocol had already been signed between both governments to facilitate trade connections between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan through China which needed to be implemented. He said that Kyrgyzstan was keen to cooperate in higher education, trade and investment sectors. He also presented an invitation to Speaker Asad Qaiser on behalf of Kyrgyz Speaker to visit Bishkek.
