*DEMOCRACY IS IMPERATIVE FOR PEACE, STABILITY AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY: NA SPEAKER*

Islamabad: Speaker National Assembly Mr. Asad Qaiser and Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri has said that democracy contributes in economic progress of the country, as well as gives basic fundamental rights to all it’s citizens. They expressed these views in their separate messages on the occasion of “International Democracy day” which is commemorated on 15th September every year.

The Speaker said that no country can progress without having democratic values. He said that democracy gives the right to people to choose their elected representatives which are responsible for making laws and govern the country. In order to achieve this objective, it’s the duty of all political parties to shun their differences and join hands to strengthen the democratic process in the country, he added.

The Speaker said that the beauty of democracy is that it finds indigenous solutions to the complex problems bedeviling the polity. It encourages participation of citizens, who are the real stakeholder, in taking charge of their lives. The public participation and ownership of state policies is the bedrock of democracy.”

While criticizing Indian regime of not giving the right of self-determination to Kashmiris, the Speaker said that the solution of Kashmir problem lies under the United Nation’s resolutions which demands plebiscite in the region. He said that Pakistani nation stands alongside with Kashmiri people and shall continue supporting them on all platforms.

On this occasion, the Deputy Speaker said that democracy is strengthening in Pakistan, and consecutive smooth transition of powers between elective representatives has beefed the democratic system in the country. He said successive derailing of democracy in past has badly hampered the growth and development of Institutions in the country. Democracy is the only way to guarantee our stability and to ensure our economic and social progress, Deputy Speaker added.
