A delegation of Kisan Ittehad called on Prime Minister Imran Khan

The delegation included President Farmers Union Khalid Mahmood Khokhar, Secretary General Chaudhry Ehsan Akram and Provincial President Rizwan Iqbal

Federal Minister for National Food Security Syed Fakhrumam, Chairperson Special Committee on Agricultural Production Shandana Gulzar were also present in the meeting.

The delegation appreciated the Prime Minister’s keen interest and initiatives for the development of the agricultural sector

The delegation also apprised the Prime Minister of the problems faced by the farmers. Discussion in detail on electricity rates, supply of fertilizers at reasonable prices, availability of standard seeds, crop insurance and other important issues regarding tube wells.

Talking to the delegation, the Prime Minister reiterated his commitment that the development of the agricultural sector is the top priority of the government and therefore the government would take all possible steps to facilitate the farmers. He said that despite the difficult economic situation due to Corona, the government has given a package of Rs 50 billion for the development of the agricultural sector.
The Prime Minister directed that the demand regarding electricity tariffs on agricultural tube wells be considered.

The Prime Minister said that in order to increase production in the agricultural sector and to introduce modern technology, cooperation was being made with friendly country China.

The Prime Minister directed the Minister for National Food Security to formulate a strategy on priority basis in consultation with the provincial governments regarding the problems faced by the farmers.
